Over the past year, a board of six - working in conjunction with the library director and a member of the Joplin Public Library Board - have successfully adopted by-laws, attained 501(c)(3) status and developed sort- and long-term goals for the Friends group.

Our board members have a variety of experience in library board service and serving on other community organizations, as well as being patrons of the JPL. The library board has endorsed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Friends group, clearing the way for the organizations to work together.
